Dhanteras Pooja is one of the most auspicious Hindu festival rituals, celebrated on the Trayodashi (13th lunar day) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin or Kartik, marking the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. The word Dhanteras is derived from "Dhan" (wealth) and "Teras" (thirteenth day), symbolizing prosperity, fortune, and well-being.

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Dhanvantari, the divine physician and incarnation of Lord Vishnu, emerged from the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean) carrying the pot of Amrita (nectar of immortality) on this auspicious day. Dhanteras is also dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity, and Lord Kubera, the treasurer of the gods.

During the pooja, devotees perform Lakshmi Pooja, Kubera Pooja, Dhanvantari Pooja, Ganapathi Pooja, and light traditional lamps (Deepams) to welcome prosperity and positive energy into their homes and workplaces. It is customary to purchase gold, silver, new utensils, or valuable items on this day, as they are believed to bring lasting fortune and abundance.
